Obituary of Charles Alan Benson
Charles (Chuck) Alan Benson, 81, of State College, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Chuck was born on April 6, 1942, in Bellefonte. He was the son of the late Richard E. Benson and Dorothy (Scholl). On April 31, 1973, he married Joyce (Kocher) who survives at home after they shared 50 years of marriage together.
Chuck was a 1960 graduate of Williamsport High School. He received a Bachelor's degree from Mansfield University in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree from Penn State University, and a certificate from Tuffs University. He was a 5th and 6th grade teacher at the State College Area School District. After leaving teaching he became a Mechanical Estimator for G.M. McCrossin, Inc.
In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by one daughter, Christy Long (Ryan). One sister June Rose Welch (Patrick) of Annville and one brother Robert E. Benson (Pamela) of Bellefonte and one sister-in-law, Adele of Bellefonte. One brother, David R. Benson of Bellefonte, preceded him in death. He also had many beloved nieces and nephews.
Among his favorite pastimes, Chuck loved reading about American History and United States Presidents, listening to folk music including Judy Collins, Pete Segeer, and Arlo Guthrie, and in recent years he enjoyed stamp collecting. He also had a love for Penn State Football and the Green Bay Packers.
Following Chuck's wishes, there will be no services.
