Obituary of Michael Bourgo
Michael B. Bourgo, 79, of State College, Pennsylvania, died on May 21, 2024. Born on November 19, 1944 in Knoxville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Alfred B. Bourgo and Nelle C. Bourgo.
Michael is survived by his wife Jerrie, his son, Jon and his wife, Edele O'Brien of Saint Paul, MN, his daughter Jennie Bourgo of Boalsburg, PA, and his two grandchildren, Leo and Maya Toyokawa of Boalsburg, PA. He is also survived by his brother, Jon M. Bourgo, and his wife, Maryse Bourgo, along with his niece, Kimberly Baker and nephew, Jason Bourgo.
Mike graduated from Knox College with a bachelor's in history in 1966 and from the University of Chicago in 1968 with a master's in history. After his studies, Mike worked for IBM for 33 years. Mike's true passion was being a poet. He published numerous volumes of his poetry and loved to share his passion with others. Mike also enjoyed reading, gardening, the Chicago White Sox, and spending time with his grandchildren. For many years, he and his wife, Jerrie, enjoyed time at their cabin in Ferryville, Wisconsin. Mike thrived teaching others about writing poetry. While in State College, Mike taught classes in poetry at the Osher LifeLong Institute through Penn State University. Mike was a member of the Unitarian Universalists and the Quaker Society of Friends in State College. Mike exemplified kindness and was very passionate about life and humanity.

Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
