Obituary of Ethel Nyiri

Ethel A. Nyiri 76 of State College died Friday, May 4, 2012 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born May 11, 1935 in Alpha, NJ she was the daughter of the late John and Lena Gyarmaty Liptak. On April 26, 1958 she married Louis A Nyiri who survives in State College. Ethel is also survived by 2 daughters E. Valerie Nyiri of Roanoke Rapid, NC and Luann Nyiri-Weaver and her husband Rick of Bellefonte and one son Rev. Louis A Nyiri II and his wife Rev. Candace Veon-Nyiri of Gettysburg. Also surviving are four grandchildren Amie, Mindi, Joey and Alex and 2 great grandchildren Eric and Jackson Hasty. Ethel was a graduate of Easton High School in 1952 and Easton Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, and was employed as a registered nurse at Easton Hospital and Abington Memorial. Ethel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was active in Cub Scouts serving as a den mother and conducting day long craft making round-tables for other den leaders in the area. She was always true to her profession as a Registered Nurse, having offered pro bono medical services to those in need during illness, especially members of her church community - both at Great Island Presbyterian Church, Lock Haven, PA and State College Presbyterian Church. Ethel was a faithful member of both Presbyterian Church's listed above having served as both an Elder and Deacon. She served on several Presbytery committees. She was active in the Presbyterian Women and loved leading one of the circle-group Bible studies. She also used her gifts in many other capacities within the church which ranged from: Sunday school teacher to arts-n-crafts coordinator to leading the Birthday Party for Jesus at Christmas for the Sunday school youth. At the State College Presbyterian Church, she was very active and instrumental in the youth group activities (LOGOS) from inception of the program - as long as her health permitted. Specifically, she coordinated all dietary purchases and meal preparations. She was often teased for having used "clipped coupons" to defray the cost of food. A staunch supporter of the Krislund Camp & Conference Center, Madisonburg, PA, Ethel labored from the initial ground clearing until the grounds and programs were opened to the first campers in the early 1960s. Ethel served Krislund Camp further as a volunteer nurse - at times spending the entire season at camp with her children and/or grand children. Ethel also enjoyed her participation in several local groups like: Welcome Wagon, State College Women's Club and American Legion Auxiliary. Friends will be received at the Koch Funeral Home 2401 South Atherton Street, State College, PA on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 6 until 8 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at the State College Presbyterian Church, 132 West Beaver Ave, State College, PA on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
