Shirley and Family:
Phil's passing has taken me a while to accept -- even though I know his last few years were a struggle as his disease progressed. I prefer to remember the professor who took a chance on a guy fresh out of the Air Force -- who had not done advanced engineering for several years -- and award him a research assistanceship. It was a great experience to study and learn from one of the best. And, of course, our flights to our work sites as we pursued our research. He just loved that we could fly from site to site on our own schedule! Without that Masters Degree I would not be as successful as I am today. Thanks Phil! You were a great "teacher". Rest in peace.
And Shirley -- thank you for hosting my family many times for Penn State games. It was so much fun to be with you and Phil. It was a special pleasure for me to be "good friends" with my mentor, and to be able to discuss the engineering issues of the day! Thank you so much.

Shirley~ My thoughts and prayers go out to you and all family members during this time of loss. It was always a pleasure to sit and chat with you and Phil at the Terrace. Phil always had a smile and a kind way of greeting me and I will cherish that memory as well as watching the two of you enjoying a baseball game on TV and just being TOGETHER.

Dad you taught me many useful things in life but two that will stay with me always are these...
You taught me through your words and actions that it is not the material things that matter in life - it is respect, patience, faith and faithfulness, peace, love, and family that make one wealthy.
Memories of unforgettable times that I have had with you are many but one that I often think of is when we went camping and you pointed out the north star and the constellations and said "you will never get lost if you stop and take the time to look up at the stars".
From these two lessons, as well as from many of the other things I learned from you, I will never get lost physically or spiritually...
Thank you Daddy, I love you.
Your "mouse", Joyce

I saw this today, Sunday, and I was struck by a few things. First, my sympathy to the family. Second, my times with Dr.Cady, when he and I worked a little together, both with my Dad, and by ourselves back in the concrete research days. I think of those days often, and I was just sad today, to see this. Maybe Dr.Cady and Dad will hang out today, and talk about the past. Again, may God bless your family, and please say hello to all the family, from Lyn Kline

Dear Shirley and family,
You have my sympathies. I owe so much to Dr. Cady for my graduate school education and I cherished his friendship thereafter. In the world of concrete engineering, all I ever had to say was that "I studied under Phil Cady" and I got immediate acceptance. The fact that he remembered my father from Penn State football (Joe Sabol, class of '58) also created another bond between us. I will miss him, but his legacy lives on through all of the engineers he educated during his career. I was motorcycling through Elmira, NY on July 8, never realizing that was his birthplace...maybe just one of those cosmic connections.

I received First Holy Communion with Philip at Mansfield Catholic church. My mother, Catherine Harzinski Clark was our Sunday School teacher. I thought that there was another brother also receiving
First Holy Communion. Somewhere I have the picture of all of us out in front of the church. God Bless you, Philip.
