Obituary of Phyllis Bierly

Phyllis Marie Bierly, 88, of State College, died October 16. Born October 26, 1925 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Hazel Hartsock Deal. On December 20, 1952, she married Woodrow W. Bierly of State College, who preceded her in death on July 5, 2008. A 1943 graduate of the State College High School, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in advertising from Penn State in 1947. She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She was a lifelong member of the State College Presbyterian Church, and an active member of the Auxiliary of the Presbyterian Homes. For many years, she was a Red Cross Volunteer, a member of the Ladies Golf Association of Centre Hills Country Club, Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter, University Women's Club, and the Faculty-Staff Retirees Club. She was deeply devoted to her family. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia B. Hall and her husband, Thomas W. Hall, granddaughter Erin H. Ellstein and her husband, David B. Ellstein, and grandson Peter A. Hall and his fiancé, Aimee L. Hegel. Her son, Harold W. Bierly, died in 2004. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College, with the Reverend Joel Blunk officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Windy Hill Village Auxiliary, PO Box 551, Philipsburg, PA 16866.
