Coach Faris. What a great man. For reasons I do not know just minutes ago I was thinking of him. Perhaps it's the NCAA tournament and my memories of long ago. But this I must write:
Coach Faris took a direct and loving interest in me as a basketball player, but moreso as a student and friend. I will never forget the morning he sought me ought in the cafeteria at State College High School to sit with me and discuss my academics, telling me, "Johnny, you can do so much better than this! I know you can!" He started me as a sophomore against Clearfield which absolutely terrified me. But, he knew it would give me a lifelong experience that I would NEVER forget. Coach Faris NEVER gave up on me. I learned years later that he'd bought all of the operas (in vinyl) that my father had collected. Those very operas and classics I cherished because I used to listen to them with my father. I was glad to know that we had shared such unknown passion. As a measure of gratitude and appreciation for Coach Faris let me please extend my greatest and sincere condolences to his surviving family, and that his passing only through the power of the internet did I learn of this. Coach Faris will always be one of the greatest men I will have ever known in my life. And for this I am eternally grateful.
Respectfully,
John Paul Riger

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ron Faris. Like so many others, I fondly remember Mr. Faris with a smile - he was friendly, approachable, grounded and supportive of so many of us during those fragile high school years. I had the pleasure to play basketball under him many, many years ago and his memory is still strong in my mind, a tribute to the profound affect he had on me and so many others. Truly a life that his family can be proud of and a presence that will surely be missed by his family and friends. God bless the Faris family.

Sending love, prayers, and blessings to a wonderful family. Mr. Faris was always there to support and help students. He made a difference for me everyday when I struggled with the divorce of my parents. He believed that all students could be successful and he was always available. May the memories of such a wonderful husband and father help you to get through this difficult time.

Dear Mrs. Faris, Ron, Chris, and Anne.
As you are surely witnessing through the many messages of condolence being sent to you, I hope you are truly encouraged by the tremendous legacy that Mr. Faris has left for so many people.
In addition to being such a great counselor, educator, coach, and so much more...I will always have great memories of him watching Ronnie, Chris, and I play basketball in your driveway when you lived on Curtin Street! Moreover, I know it always meant a great deal to see him constantly building up and encouraging our State High teams be it if we were playing baseball, basketball, or for any students involved in other activities.
Mr. Faris will be greatly missed, much appreciated, and I pray for God's peace and comfort for your family. Thank you Mrs. Faris, Ron, Chris, and Anne for allowing all of us (who are writing messages, or those being able to make it back into town) to have had the honor and privilege of having Mr. Faris be a part of our lives, as well as us having the opportunity to be a part of your family's life.

Nancy,
It was you and Mr. Faris (sorry, still have trouble with "Ron") who helped to reform/restore? me from an insecure young woman to the confident, self-assured woman I am today. I will never forget Mr. Faris' attention (I think he saw the potential I did not see) and the faith you, Nancy, also shared. So honored to have had him in my life. Never ever forgotten.

I have the fondest memories of Mr. Faris--especially as my guidance counselor in high school. He talked to students as people, not children. I greatly appreciated that and the interest he took in all of us. We were so fortunate to have him on our side! I will forever remember the twinkle in his eye and his wonderful sense of humor. I send hugs and my deepest condolences to Mrs. Faris, Ron and the rest of the family. You are in my prayers.
