Obituary of Ronald Faris

Ronald Matthew Faris, 79, of State College, died Monday, December 8, 2014 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Ronnie (or Ron) was born in Uniontown, Pa. He was the son of John and Sophie (Antoon) Faris. Ronnie is survived by his loving wife Nancy Hansgen Faris, his son, Ronald Faris and his wife Cathleen K. Faris; three Grandchildren, Amy, Molly and Kirk, of West Palm Beach, Fl.; his son, Christopher Faris of State College; his daughter, Anne Faris, and granddaughter Caitlyn DeFluri of State College; his brother, John Faris, of Boca Raton, Fl.; his brother, Joseph Faris, sister, Arleen Wilson and brother, Richard Faris,of Uniontown, Pa. Ronnie graduated from Uniontown High School in 1953. He went on to Graduate from Penn State with a B.S. Degree in Education in 1958 and a Maters of Education in Counseling in Education in 1961. He was a proud member of Theta Kappa Phi Fraternity and will be forever remembered by his fraternity brothers. He was married to Nancy Hansgen on November 21, 1959, and he spent six months on active duty in the United States Army and was a member of the Arm Reserves from 1959 to 1965. He began his career as a Teacher and Coach at Duquesne High School in 1959. He returned to State College to complete his Masters Degree and began his fulfilling 30 year career as a Guidance Counselor and Basketball Coach at State College Area High School. He will be remembered and missed by his many former colleagues, students and players. Ron was an avid State High and Penn State Sports fan. He also loved his Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He was a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association and a member of Our Lady of Victory Church. Visitation will be 6:30 until 9 p.m., on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Our Lady of Victory, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, with Reverend Neil Dadey and Chorbishop John D. Faris officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bob Perk' s Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 313 State College, PA 16804.
