My friend, Bernie, was such a gem! She enriched my life with love and caring, while keeping me laughing. She extended her kind ways to my dear Harry, and to my daughter, Emily. "Aunt Bernie" was a very special person to her! Harry and I spent many wonderful times visiting Bernie. Her home was our home when we were there. In recent years, Bernie and I frequently visited on the phone, for an hour or more! I last saw Bernie when I took her to the Olive Garden for lunch after her fall when she could not drive. I am so glad I had that one on one time with her. I last spoke with her on the phone the day before she died and told her the good news that Emily and Sandy bought a new house in TX and she was so happy for them. She said she was unwell, and then she told me "her get up and go, got up and went." Making me laugh, as usual! Emily and I will never think of Bernie without smiling and that is her wonderful legacy to us! With loving memories, Eleanor Lawton and Emily McMannes
