To Soon, family and friends of Forrest Remick,
He was an excellent regulator -- fair, thoughtful and considerate, and when he spoke there was integrity and knowledge behind his voice, yet always open-minded to the opinions of his peers and colleagues, as well as those he regulated (of which I was one).
God bless,
Rob Sweeney

When I joined the ME faculty in 1963 4E allowed me to share his locker in the PE building since none were available and I wanted to join the small group which played handball two or three times a week. I enjoyed knowing him, working with him and of course playing handball with him. Lois joins me in sending condolences to Soon and family. Carl Wolgemuth

When I came to Penn State in the summer of 1989 to become the new director of the University Press, I reported to Forrest as my first boss. He was then VP in the Office for Research and the Dean of the Graduate School. I soon. Learned about some facts that my interviewers (not including Forrest) had failed to disclose to me, such as the charges for sexual harassment brought against my predecessor by a staff member (which divided the rest of the staff and created morale problems) and the actions taken by my predecessor to write contracts without ever consulting the University’s legal counsel and to set up a fund for Press use that administrators long did not know existed. The challenges facing me as new director then, went well beyond the normal and in my early months there, with my family not yet having moved to State College from New Jersey, I became very depressed and in my darkest moments even contemplated suicide. No one did more to talk me through this period of depression and give me hope for the future than Forrest, and I can quite honestly say that he even saved my life. He will therefore always live in my memory as one of the people who most contributed to my success, and I remain eternally grateful to him for his good will, kindness, and solicitude that led me to stay for twenty years as director. Thank you, Forrest!

James and Brucie Serene posted a condolence

Hi Soon,
What a wonderful message Forrest send in his obituary. Brucie and I remember well coming to your home to see the black bear on your deck. I am glad to have spearheaded the effort to name the bike path connecting Brandywine to the Mt. Nittany Middle School property as 'Remick Way'. The sign remains as a small tribute to the work Forrest did to get College Township to change the path from gravel to asphalt. Every day, during the school year, local children ride their bicycles to and from school on that path. What may seem like a small effort, has been a major contribution to our neighborhood.
Of course, we all miss you as well.
May peace be with you at this time.
Most sincerely, James and Brucie Serene
