Obituary of Dr. Forrest Jerome Remick Jr.

Nuclear Engineering Pioneer Dr. Forrest J. Remick passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, at The Village at Penn State. Born March 16, 1931 the son of Forrest J. Remick Sr. and Ruth B. (Saiers) Remick. Husband of Soon J. (Cho) Remick. Father of Beth A. (Remick) Gillio and Eric F. Remick; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Good morning! They've informed me that I'm no longer going to be with you and that I'm off on a new adventure and experience. I promised my loving wife that I will email her when I know where I've landed.

It has been a good life for a young kid from Lock Haven growing up with two siblings in a working- class family during the Great Depression. Although of average intelligence, hard work and persistence led to successes. Most all of the university and government positions and professional jobs were offered to me, not sought by me.

Being at the right place at the right time provided the opportunity to become involved in the pioneering stages of the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and led to many opportunities and fascinating experiences in an exciting domestic and international profession.

What a wonderful country this United States of America. A country that is so proudly identified by its stars and stripes. I loved living in the rolling Allegheny mountains with the wide, lush farming valleys between. I am proud to have been born as a free American citizen and to have served in our armed services during the Korean "War". May Old Glory continue to proudly fly over this great country.

I have been blessed by excellent care from my lovely, loving wife Soon and by excellent care from numerous members of the medical community. When we are young, we don't know how much we might become dependent on the help of others.

My regrets and apologies include not being a better husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, professor and friend as well as for not telling those dear to me more often that I love them and cherish their being an important part of my life.

In short, it has been a great life. Enjoy yours to the fullest. This being my final epistle, I wish you all well. I'm sorry that I won't be here to read the morning news with my wife and cup of coffee.
